Derek Porter Studio and el dorado, inc., were engaged as an artist team in the development of this public art work. The team had continuous engagement with design professionals and civic leaders throughout the project’s 10 year development to ensure that civic interests and detail development of the artwork integration to the bridge was appropriately executed. The artwork focus is on human movement and visual perception for both pedestrians and vehicular traffic as they pass across the bridge. Through the application of transparent and reflective materials along with isolating safe zones for gathering and contemplation, the new bridge fosters social interest in breaking down racial barriers historically felt in this urban core region.
